Freedom to Soar

viaadmin Children's Feature, Volume 38

What a majestic bird! No wonder the Bald Eagle is a symbol of freedom and strength! It can soar at altitudes of 10,000 feet. During flight, it can effortlessly achieve speeds of 60 to 70 km per hour. It is known for its excellent eyesight, and can spot a fish from several hundred feet above the water. Watching an eagle in flight is a breath-taking experience, and certainly should cause us to admire its Creator!

Now imagine an eagle being kept in a cage, not able to soar through the air. It cannot help itself; it is without strength. What a hopeless situation! This bird was meant to fly, to be strong and free! Just like the caged eagle, we are imprisoned by sin. We were made to have a relationship with the God of Heaven, but we are bound by our sin and separated from Him. The sinful nature that we were all born with demands its own way. It controls our thought life and also our actions, causing us to do things like cheat, boast and lie. We try to live independently, with no thought of God or His claim on us. We are without strength to break free from our sinful habits.

Wouldn’t it be wonderful to be free from the power of sin? Wouldn’t it be great to live the way we should live, in fellowship with our Creator? The Word of God says that our sin must be judged. We can do nothing to deserve the forgiveness of God. We need Someone who is greater than ourselves, to not only forgive us, but to give us the strength to live our lives in a way that pleases Him.

God is the only one who can make this possible. We cannot come to Him our own way. He has provided a Substitute, one who has taken the punishment for our sin, so that we can be free from sin’s control and saved from the eternal punishment we deserve.

The Lord Jesus Christ died for your sins! God showed His great love for you when He sent His sinless Son to die on the cross. “While we were yet sinners, Christ died for us” (Romans 5:8). Have you taken your place as the one who is without strength? Have you put your faith in Him for salvation? Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and you will be saved (Acts 16:31).
